Fully Automatic  Watering or Irrigation

System for Plants and Flowers.

 

 Package 6:

 

 

 

 

 Drawing List:

 

 

 The file format is STL and Ready to be loaded into your slicer

 program. Like the free slicer program Cura or any one else you

 use for your 3D Printer.

 This package include: Total of 54 STL Drawings Files:

 10 pcs. STL Drawings Files for Primary Water Feeder for 10

 different plant sizes. ° 69, 79, 89, 99,109, 119, 129, 139,

 149, 159 mm.

 12 Pcs. STL Drawings Files for Distance pieces,

 12 different plant sizes.

 9 Pcs. STL Drawings Files for Secondary water feeder as I also

 call Soil Spear.

 Additional there is following extra included for various experiments.

 5 Pcs. STL Drawings Files for water pillows.

 5 Pcs. STL Drawings Files cutting template for water pillows.

 12 Pcs. STL Drawings Files for marking template for full size

 water pillows.

 1 Pcs. STL Drawings Files for special tool for

 sewing thread winding.

 There is all you need to make the automatic watering system.

 But Please Note the glass type.

This package includes 10 Pcs. Primary Water Feeder, drawing files for 10 different plant sizes.

This component is mainly the only one there is different in the different packages.

 

This package includes 12 Pcs. Distance pieces, drawing files for 12 different plant sizes.

This is standard in all packages, there fore there is 12 and not 10 pcs

 

 This package includes 9 Pcs. drawing files for

 Secondary water feeder or Soil Spear.

 This package also includes 5 Pcs. drawings for water pillows

 How To Use it Step by Step Guide:

 

 1: This package of drawings only works on the Large glass from:

 Nestle Nescafe 0,8 liter.

 

 2: Leave the glass in a bowl of water for about one hour then the

 marks on the glass will fall of and they are easy to clean.

 Here is shown both the Large and the Small glass 0,8/0,4 L.

 Nice Glasses.

 

 3: Measure the bottom of your plant pot, here its about 72 mm.

 

 4: Then look at the Technical Drawing as you can see below

 and find the water feeder size for your plant

 in this case the pot has a diameter on 72 mm

 then choose one slightly larger, like °79 mm.

 

 

 Below you can see the drawing or print files names to print for the different plant size:

 5: Then Print the three Components.

 This photo show printing a multi plant feeder for bottles.

 

 

 6: Print Settings:

 The design is made to work on all 3d printers, even with very low

 resolution like a 0,4 mm Nostle and a layer height at 0,4 mm

 and still be waterproof.

 Minimum Recommended Settings: With ABS

 Nostle Diameter 0,4 mm

 Layer Height 0,3 mm

 Line Width 0,4 mm

 Infill 100 % (Solid)

 Print Speed 30 mm/sec (Initial layer speed 15 mm/sec).

 Minimum recommended settings: With PLA

 Same as ABS only Exception:

 Print Speed 20 mm/sec (Initial layer speed 15 mm/sec).

 A lower layer height just make it looks much better.

 The showed prints are made with very low resolution and they works.

 But again only suggestions. Its all about the printer and Time.

 

 7: The 3 components printed.

 Primary Water Feeder,  Distance piece

 And Secondary water feeder or Soil Spear.

 

 8: Fill the glass with water.

 

 9: Mount the water feeder on the glass, turn it clockwise

 and it will stay locked on the glass.

 Then turn the whole device 180 degrees counter clockwise quickly.

 After rotation the water will stay in the glasses due to vacuum

 in the glass.

 

 10: In this solution it will automatically ensure there always are

 2 to 6 mm water in the reservoir on the water feeder as long there

 is water in the glass. When the flower Soak the water, the level in

 the reservoir will drop a little and this will let a some air

 into the glass. Then you can see a small air bubble blow up

 through glass which, again will level the water and this proces

 continues automatically.

 

 11: How to feed the plant with water from the water reservoir.

 Dont place the plant direct in the water feeder pot then the flower will

 get too much water, we have to controll the amount water the flower get.

 For this I have designet various solutions. I recommend starting with

 this solution: All you need is a ordinary cloths used in kitchen, other

 fabric or yarn with good suction ability can also be used.

 

 12: Now cut 1 strips from the cloth.

 

 13: Squeeze the strip into the tip of the soil spear like this.

 

 14: Bend the strip over the soil spear and cut it along the buttom

 edge of the soil spear. For at start cut one of them shorter than the

 other so only one goes to the water.

 

 15: Now you are ready.

 

 16: Put the distance piece upside down from how it was printed into

 the water reservoir.

 

 17: Push the soil spear through one of the holes in the bottom

 of  the pot on the plant.

 

 18: Here shown one of the other soil spear types. 

 

 19: Then just place the plant on the distance piece

 so the fabric strip is in the water.

 Now the plant pot is above the water and too much water can drain

 out, and it is ventilated underneath the plant.

 At the same time it can easy soak the needed water.

 

 Job done.

 

 

 How to control the water flow:

 

 The challenge is to make sure that the plant does not get

 too much water.

 If the plant get too much, then you can adjust it by cutting the strip

 thinner. Or you can use Cotton sewing thread, the more thread 

 numbers, the more water the plant get. 
 You can also use other fabric cutted in strip.

 For plants like cacti or cactus and succulents, it may even

 not necessary with soil spear only the distance piece.

 The normal evaporation of the water is enough moisture for these

 plants if the room temperature is high.

 It can be a good idea to let the plant dry out before filling

 glasses again.

 There are many elements that are essential:

 Type of plant, type of soil, size of plant, ambient temperature

 air humidity, and Light.

 

 

 I have designet 9 pcs different soil spears, on the photo you can

 see the many opportunities.   

 Not only different fabric you can also adjust the length of fabric

 to delay the flow.

 

 For sewing thread I have created a tool for winding the

 thread to make it easy to make strip.

 Drawing file is included for printing. wt01.stl

 

 

 If you use clay plant pots, you may not need distance piece and soil spear just place the plant

 direct in the water reservoir.

 

 This is shown  with a bottle but the princip with glass is the same.

 The plant wil get moisture from inside of the clay pot.   

 These 3 photo shows clay pot absorb water it takes

 only 1 hours. But make sure the soil do not touch the water.

 

 Works very well with ceramics pots.

 1: This package also includes 5 Pcs. drawings for water pillows

 and 5 Pcs. drawings for cutting template.

 Printed and ready.

 

 2: Cutting it out.

 

 3: Push the cloth slices into the water pillow holder.

 

 4: Place them in the water, they will soak water.

 

 5: Place the plant on the water pillows this will also kip distance

 to the water surface but still feed the plant with water.

 

 6: Job done.

 

 1: You can also make full size water pillows, there is a marking

 template for all the water feeder components.

 

 2: Cut it out.

 

 3: Make sure to cut enough slices so the plant is raised above

 the water level.

 

 4: Job done.

 

 

 Well if you want to go all in...........

 

 You can also add a bit of fruit color used for deserts

 Here it is blue.   Same princip with both Glasses and Bottles.

 Any negative effect on the flower is at your own risk.

 

 And Here it is green.
